Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Monday promised to provide succour to the flood affected people of Jammu and Kashmir during their visit here.
Inspecting a rehabilitation camp, the mother-son duo were seen mingling with local people and shaking their hands, bypassing barricades and security. Both were seen giving a patient hearing to the sufferings of the flood victims.
Prominent Kashmiri leaders accompanied the duo such as Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, and Saifuddin Soz.
Speaking to the media, Rahul Gandhi said, "Since the floods have hit the state, our party organization, local party leaders and Rajiv Gandhi Foundation are all working here together. It is a time of grief and we came here to see for ourselves."
Earlier this month, incessant rains had resulted in landslides, flash floods and rising of water level in all the rivers of Jammu and Kashmir which has claimed scores of lives and destroyed property worth thousands of crores.
