Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday met the farmers of Bhandwa village in Haryana's Bhiwani district and assessed the loss suffered by them due to the unseasonal rains.
"I appeal to the government to give right and timely compensation to these farmers. That is what the government's responsibility is," she told the media.
The farmers on their part expressed delight that the Congress president heard their woes.
Meanwhile, Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh is visiting Maharashtra today to take an extensive tour of the areas affected by heavy rains and hailstorms.
