Congress president Sonia Gandhi, on Sunday stated that her party whole-heartedly wishes to develop the Telangana region. At the same time she attacked the Telangana Rashtriya Samithi chief K Chandrashekhar Rao, for taking all credit for the establishment of the State.
"Indira Gandhi had struggled hard to develop this region by laying foundation of government and non-government industry here. Similarly we envision to develop Telangana whole-heartedly. Telangana has now been formed. I want to remember all those who participated in the formation of the state and laid down their lives in the process," Sonia Gandhi said at a rally in Andole.
She said it was not easy to create Telangana as the interests of both the regions of Telangana and Seemandhra had to be taken care of. "It was not easy to come to an understanding on creating Telangana. We had to ensure that both Telangana and Seemandhra were treated equally. Our own people were against the creation of the state and inspite of that we backed the creation of the new state of Telangana," Sonia added.
She criticised the TRS chief for backtracking on his promises and taking all the credit upon himself for the creation of the new state.
"There are many people who are beating their drums. TRS chief Chandrashekhar had promised many things but he did not keep his words. Now we believe that he remained with us before just for his own interest. He is spreading lies to take credit for the creation of the new state," Sonia said.
"When the bill for the creation of the new state was presented in the parliament TRS chief himself was not present at that time and hence it proves that his non-seriousness. Similarly, BJP had opposed the bill in Rajya Sabha. Even YSRC and TDP also opposed it and even with all the opposition we gave you your state," Sonia added.
