Miss South Africa Rolene Strauss has been crowned the Miss World 2014.
The world watched as the 22-year-old beauty beat Miss Hungary, Edina Kulcsar, the runner-up, and Miss United States, Elizabeth Safrit, the second runner up, to claim the title in the 64th annual competition, contested by women from 121 countries, News24.com reported.
Miss World 2013, Megan Young of the Philippines, crowned the medical student, who dedicated her title to South Africa, saying that she would brace herself for what was to come as it was a huge responsibility.
Strauss is the 3rd South African to win the Miss World title, after Anneline Kriel (1974) and Penny Coelen in 1958.
The 10 contestants who made it to the final scoreboard were, in descending order, from India, South Africa, England, Guyana, Brazil, Hungary, Kenya, United States, Mexico and Australia.
The event also honoured 1994's Miss World and Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan with a special award for her charitable work she had done since being crowned.
