South Africa's largest mobile social network Mxit is expanding to India.
Mxit announced that it has launched the first phase of its Indian expansion plan.
According to news24, CEO Francois Swart said launching Mxit in India was a strategic step, which allows the company to expand.
Launching its mobile instant messenger, Mxit said that the application is both fast and data light allowing users with even the most basic 2G connection to benefit.
However, Mxit faces competition in developing markets from chat services like Tencent's WeChat.
In India itself, Mxit may face challenges from services like RockeTalk, which is expected to reach an estimated 20 million users of 72 million online by the end of 2014, the report added.
