Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Naresh Agarwal on Wednesday welcomed the show cause notice issued to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Yogi Adityanath by the Election Commission of India for violation of the poll code.
Agarwal said BJP leaders want to flare up communal tensions with their vitriolic remarks.
"If Amit Shah himself has said this that more such communal tensions happen then that will strengthen the BJP. If that is their mindset then what else could be expected from them," Agarwal told ANI here.
"We had earlier also said to the Election Commission that they must restrain him for giving such speeches, now that the Election Commission has taken such a step it is a good thing," he added.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Election Commission issued a show cause notice to Yogi Adityanath for violating the model code of conduct while campaigning for the BJP candidate in the upcoming assembly by-polls in Noida.
The BJP MP from Gorakhpur has been asked to give an explanation in this regard by September 10.
