Expressing confidence of the BJP's splendid show in Uttar Pradesh, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday dubbed the Congress-Samajwadi Party alliance as opportunist formed under compulsion.
Addressing a media briefing here, Jaitley said the pro-development BJP can only improve the state of affairs in politically crucial Uttar Pradesh.
"After the first phase of the elections, the BJP has a strong hold in Uttar Pradesh and we are in the process of achieving a comfortable majority in the state," he said.
The Finance Minister also threw light on the BJP's development agenda.
"We currently have a budget of Rs. 3.96 lakh crore only for infrastructure development this year," he said.
The campaigning for the second phase of assembly elections ended yesterday evening. The voting will be held on February 15. 67 seats spread over 11 districts will go to polls in this phase.
The first phase of polling was held on Saturday with a 64 percent voter turnout. The first phase included 73 constituencies with a total of 839 candidates in the fray.
