Former Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Laxmikant Bajpai on Friday said the ruling Samajwadi Party stands exposed before the people courtesy the ongoing friction within the party fold and added that they would now face serious consequences in the assembly polls scheduled next year.

Taking a jibe at the latest political developments in the state post senior leader Shivpal Yadav's move to resign from the government as well as all party posts, Bajpai said the present situation is like an erupted volcano and added that it cannot be salvaged by a helicopter or a fire brigade.

"I did say that the ruling party in the state has become the victim of this turmoil. But it has been going on since many days. It has been in magazines and newspapers. I don't know why it was not taken seriously," he added.

Bajpai also taunted Akhilesh's assertion that there was a rift in the family but a political dispute.

The BJP leader told ANI the differences in the Samajwadi Party are all too visible to the people, adding the latest developments will have consequences in the upcoming assembly elections.

"The Samajwadi Party after coming to power have cheated the public of UP and they will suffer the consequences in the upcoming state elections," said Bajpai.

"The Samajwadi Party, which has been dreaming of forming the government, has now damaged itself. The Samajwadi Party's reputation has been dented courtesy the ongoing friction," he added.

The political crisis within the ruling Samajwadi Party escalated last evening as newly appointed state unit chief Shivpal Yadav resigned from all party posts and ministerial berths.

His son Aditya Yadav also resigned as the chairman of Pradeshik Cooperative Federation.

The announcement came within minutes after Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav at his Lucknow residence.

Mulayam earlier tried to broker a peace deal between his warring brother and son.

His efforts, however, failed to diffuse the tension.

The friction in the Samajwadi Party fold escalated with the sacking of Chief Secretary Deepak Singhal, considered close to Shivpal.
