Around 2000 runners including specially-abled and active citizens, sportspersons and social media assembled at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Sunday to run together to promote the value of inclusion and spirit of active citizenship.

The purpose of the marathon is to create mass awareness and sensitize general

"We are not in a position to give any kind of message to them. They give us the message that though we are physically disabled, we can also do whatever you can do. So, I think this is really motivating for all of us," Bollywood and television actor, Anup Soni, who flagged off the event said.

There were three categories including micro run (1.75 kilometres), mini run (2.6 kilometres) and macro run (5.25 kilometres).

Kargil war survivor and first amputee marathon runner, Major DP Singh, who led the marathon said the event is aimed to strengthen the disability movement in India.

"The event is organised to send out a message to all those who call people like me as disabled, and they think we will not be able to do many things like them and they are better than us. But this is not true and we should be dependent on our abilities and not on our disabilities," Singh said.
