The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) immediately suspended the players and promised that stricter punishments would be awarded if they were found guilty.

A Delhi court on May 30 granted Ankeet Chavan conditional bail until June 06 for his wedding, as according to the court there was no threat of the player tampering with evidence in the cricket scam case.

Earlier, Delhi police had invoked the provisions of Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, (MCOCA) against Sreesanth and other accused for their alleged nexus with the underworld in the spot fixing case.

The act aims to control unlawful elements spreading militancy in the society to a great extent and minimize fear spread in the society by such unlawful elements.

However, currently the court has asked them to surrender their passports, as they are not allowed to leave the country.

A series of scandals has tarnished the image of the cash-rich IPL, which boasts a host of celebrity owners including India's richest man Mukesh Ambani, spirits and airline magnate Vijay Mallya and Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan.
