Manchester United striker Robin van Persie will reportedly miss between four and six weeks of football following a sprained knee during the club's match against Olympiakos.

The Dutch international, who scored a hat trick in United's 3-0 win against Olympiakos in the Champions League, was taken off on a stretcher after the match was over.

According to the BBC, United manager David Moyes said that an initial scan of the striker's knee was 'inconclusive' but a second look revealed the extent of the damage and Van Persie would now miss both legs of United's quarterfinal against holders Bayern Munich in Champions League.

Van Persie, who suffered a thigh problem against Shakhtar Donetsk and missed the majority of December and January, was missing in action during matches as United exited the FA Cup and Capital One Cup, four times in five matches.

However, the thigh problem has not stopped the striker from scoring 17 goals in 25 appearances for the club this season but this set back would see Van Persie missing in action from important matches for the club, the report added.
