Veteran Sri Lankan batsman Mahela Jayawardene received a perfect send-off from international cricket, when his team mates trounced Pakistan in the second and final Test match of the series by 105 runs in Colombo on Monday.
Rangana Herath, who took nine wickets in the first innings, bagged five for 57 in the second to seal Pakistan's fate early on fifth day.
For the record, Sri Lanka scored 320 and 282, while Pakistan scored 332 and 165.Sarfaraz Ahmad top scored for the visitors in the second innings with 55.
Sri Lanka won the series two nil. It took Sri Lanka just under an hour on the fifth morning to wrap up the Pakistan innings and kick off the celebrations at the Sinhalese Sports Club ground, the venue of the second Test.
Pakistan had lost seven wickets in the last session of the fourth day of the Test on Sunday, and heavy showers on the fifth morning had threatened a delayed start. The clouds parted just in time for the groundstaff to get the ground ready for play.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa was among the first to felicitate Jayawardene at the end of his glorious career.
The series loss means that Pakistan has dropped from third to sixth position in the ICC Test rankings.
