Sri Lanka President to visit Tirupati under tight security from today

President Mahinda Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka will undertake a two-day private visit of the temple town of Tirupati from Tuesday amidst tight security.

Authorities in the state have reportedly made tight security arrangements.

The Lanka Page web site quoted Collector Siddharth Jain, as saying that a special flight carrying President Rajapaksa and his entourage would arrive at Renigunta Airport at 4.30 p.m., from where he will reach the Tirumala Hills by road.

After offering prayers late in the evening and again participating in the pre-dawn ritual on Wednesday, he will motor down the hills by 8.15 a.m., reach the airport by 9.30 a.m. and fly back to Colombo.

The Tirupati Urban Police have sanitised the airport and Tirumala Temple vicinity.

According to The Hindu, Chittoor Police has deployed armed guards at the border check post between Kuppam and Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu as part of security arrangements for the scheduled visit of the Sri Lanka President.
