The Sri Lankan Navy detained 14 fishermen on Thursday for allegedly violating the International Maritime Boundary Line, claimed an Indian fishermen's union.

The fishermen were detained while fishing near the Sri Lankan coast.

Secretary of Tamil Nadu Fish Workers Union, C.R. Senthilvel, said three boats were also seized and the fishermen were taken to Kangesanthurai and later shifted to Jaffna.

"It is very recently that Sri Lanka released 126 fishermen. In this atmosphere we trusted them and hoped that the problem is nearing its solution. But today again detaining our fishermen has raised questions. The pity thing about the entire issue is that the Central Government has not registered slightest of protest to Sri Lanka. This shows the non-seriousness to solve the problem," said Senthilvel.

The detention comes just a week after 126 Indian fishermen, arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on charges of poaching, were released last week.
