Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena said he was assured of "fullest cooperation" towards development in Sri Lanka by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a telephonic conversation.

"This evening, I had a very successful telephone conversation with the Indian Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi, who assured India's fullest cooperation towards the development and prosperity of Sri Lanka," Sirisena tweeted.

The phone call comes amidst media reports which claimed that Sirisena accused India of plotting his assassination during a weekly meeting. The reports speculated that the President had claimed that an agent attached to India's RAW service was involved in the alleged plot to assassinate him.

The media claims have since been strongly dismissed by Sri Lanka. The country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs termed the reports as "false" and "baseless" while highlighting the strong relationship between the two nations.
