For the safety of commuters and to make general public aware about safe driving, traffic authorities in Srinagar started a friendly and unique drive in the valley.

The programme was organised by the Non-Government Kashmir Road Safety Foundation (KRSF) in collaboration with the SSP Traffic Srinagar and Directorate of Health Services Kashmir.

Before starting the awareness programme, traffic cops, doctors and volunteers of the KRSF organised small workshop to finalise the strategy aimed to make the drive successful.

The drive was directly supervised by SSP Traffic Srinagar Sargun Shukla. She led a contingent of doctors and members of the KRSF to vital traffic junctions from Dalagate to Batamaloo because these are the main areas where commuters face a lot of problems.

The contingent of doctors and volunteers was briefed and divided into five teams to sensitise road users with the required knowledge and how to deal with trauma on roads as a first responder and also to take proactive precautions to avoid mishaps.

Pamphlets projecting road safety measures were also distributed on the occasion.

"The purpose of the campaign is to sensitize road users regarding the importance of first aid, safety-helmet, seat-belt, safe passage to hospital referrals and fire tenders on priority and to inculcate a sense of responsibility towards road accident, trauma amongst commuters, pedestrian, vendors and other road users so that precious human lives are saved on way to hospitals. For road safety we will engage students and youth to begin with because road accidents are the biggest killer of young people worldwide," Srinagar SSP Traffic Shukla said.
