Australian Test bowler Mitchell Starc has taken a dig at selectors and critics by claiming that it was difficult to deliver consistency after playing one game and then being dropped.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the left-arm quick has been in and out of the Australian side over the past nine months, and during the Ashes the pattern has continued.

The treatment has clearly frustrated the 23-year-old, who is the second-highest-paid player on Cricket Australia's books but has been unable to nail down a permanent place in the Test line-up, the report said.

Starc, however, said that in the end it all came back to getting better off the field and making sure he is knocking down the door to be in the team.
