Steve Ballmer replaces Gates as Microsoft's largest shareholder

Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft is no longer the largest shareholder of the software giant.

According to The Verge, after selling off 4.6 million shares on April 30th, Bill Gates is now positioned behind former CEO Steve Ballmer as the company's largest stakeholder.

Ballmer now holds 333.2 million shares of Microsoft against Gates, who presently owns 330.1 million shares of the company.

Ballmer, who still sits on Microsoft's board, has a net worth of 18.9 billion dollars and intends to retain his position as the top shareholder of the company.

Ballmer said in August that he cherishes his Microsoft ownership, and looks forward to continuing as one of Microsoft's largest owners," he said in August.
