Australian cricketer Steve Smith has insisted that Twent20 cricket is only making young batsmen like himself better, not worse, only days after retired Test skipper Mark Taylor questioned the shortened versions of the game.

According to News.com.au, Smith pointed out that it was certainly not the case that the lack of batting talent worldwide was because of shortened versions of the game.

He added that these formats were only enhancing their batting skills, as there was definitely still the hunger to bat for longer periods when required, adding that the extra armour of knowing that you can go up to a different level and play different shots only enhances the game.

After suggesting last week that only India was producing quality Test batsmen, Taylor wondered if it was a generational problem, the report said.
