Former Australia captain Steve Waugh believes that India's star batsman Virat Kohli needs to mature as the captain in order to emulate former Test skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni's success in the longer format of the game.
Kohli succeeded Dhoni as the captain of the Test side after the latter decided to retire from the five-day game during India's tour of Australia prior to the World Cup.
Waugh, the Australia's 1998 World Cup winning captain, said that Kohli has to mature as he had a few issues in the recently concluded World Cup, adding that the Indian star batsman gets a bit too animated; emotional; and bit too personal on some issues, the Dawn reported.
Waugh believes that one has to develop a thick skin as a captain, stating that retired Test captain Dhoni has those attributes as nothing gets through him.
Waugh also said that Dhoni could be a good role model for the Kohli as the former never got influenced by the external things as he kept it simple and goes about his job in the best that he could do on the field.
