Prominent American filmmaker Steven Spielberg has aced the box office with his Sci-fi thriller 'Ready Player One,' which earned a solid $53.2 million in ticket sales over the four-day Easter weekend in North America.

An additional $128 million have been chipped in by the overseas audiences, reported the New York Times.

The box office analysts had predicted very little triumph for this movie as its stars Tye Sheridan and Olivia Cooke, are not household names and the plot of the movie, that is, "teenagers in a dystopian future search for treasure inside a virtual-reality world called the Oasis was exceedingly difficult to explain in marketing materials," the report said.

It's Spielberg's best opening in a decade following "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" in the summer of 2008 with $118 million in opening-weekend ticket sales, after adjusting for inflation.

Other movies directed by Spielberg include "Minority Report" in 2005, "The Post", "Bridge of Spies," "Jaws", "Jurassic Park", "Close Encounters", "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and E.T. to name a few.
