Students of class one to three at South Delhi's Nigam Pratibha Vidyalaya were thrilled to see a demonstration on their future academic lessons at a workshop today conducted by Qualcomm, Sesame Workshop India (SWI) and South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC).
The students were given tablet mobile phones for a trial during the workshop followed by a small Sesame Street puppet show.
The project 'Play 'n' Learn' combines Qualcomm mobile technology and digital content from Sesame Workshop India's Gali Gali Sim Sim to make learning a better experience through Android educational mobile games despite the students' socio-economic backgrounds.
The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER), revealed last year, had found that reading and numeracy skills among Indian students had dropped off in India's rural schools.
Ashish Sood Chairman of Education Committee of SDMC said "there are many elementary education challenges in India such as teachers' leadership skills and drop-out ratio amongst students''.
Sood said that the initiative by Sesame Street's Gali Gali Sim Sim in partnership with Qualcomm would be highly effective and may have international recognition.

The project aims to improve education quality considering the ASER 2013. "According to the ASER, we are working on Hindi and Math concepts that need to be improved amongst students" said Anuragini Nagar, senior programme manager at Sesame Workshop India. She added that the educational mobile games that were in line with CBSE course structure enhance students' learning experiences.
"Our continuing association with Qualcomm Wireless Reach seeks to bring together modern mobile communication technologies and access to high educational content for children" said Sashwati Banerjee, Managing Director at Sesame Workshop India.
Banerjee said in a statement that technology had helped students across the globe in developing skills and that India would definitely benefit from the project. (ANI)
