Under the flagship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's skill development programme, many youths of the country, including the Northeast, are undergoing various developmental training to harness their potential in different sectors for a sustainable livelihood.
With the vision of 'Transforming Rural Youth into an Economically Independent and Globally Relevant Workforce', Gyanjyoti Foundation recently organized a mega training programme of 370 students on Food and Beverages with computer under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU- GKY) at Mantripukhri in Imphal.
The training programme was inaugurated by M.H. Khan, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary and state Mission Director, MSRLM as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honor respectively.
"The training centre at present has four trainers who have excelled in information and technology (IT) and soft skill. Manipur, being a gateway to South East Asia and with an increase in the field of tourism; government has taken good initiatives to enhance the skills of youths," said MD Akbar Khan, Centre Manager of Gyanjyoti Foundation.
DDU-GKY aims to engage youths, as a part of the 'National Rural Livelihood Mission' (NRLM) and Government's 'Skill Development Initiative' tasked with the dual objective of adding diversity to the incomes of rural poor families and cater to the career aspirations of rural youth.
Meanwhile a IT trainer at the centre, Ujwala, appreciated the intiative taken by the government. "Many students do not even know how to operate the system. Surprisingly, many students used the computer for the first time. However, the trainer said that students are picking up the skills day by day. This training is enhancing the skill and development of many youngsters. It is a great initiative taken by the government to improve the livelihoods of the rural youths to empower them," said Ujwala.
The programme which will continue for eight months targets to produce skillful trainees effectively in the coming two years in four different batches.
