Delhi Health Minister, Satyendra Kumar Jain, today convened a review meet with government officials over fire preparedness in government hospitals.
In the meet it was discussed that all the hospitals, both government and private, should be free of encroachment for clear passage on staircases, roofs, corridors.
All open areas in the hospitals to be free from dump encroachment as a preventive measure of fire safety. All the hospitals should procure NOC from fire department on a war footing basis
The Committee also proposed the formation of a joint committee comprising of fire department, Public Works Department and the Health department to inspect all hospitals within 7 days for fire safety preparedness.
Hospitals are required to go through installations, repair works, etc. wherever it is required. The process should be completed within 10 days
The committee said the fire department needs to send a list of requirements for fire safety preparedness in dispensaries.

It also proposed to initiate a separate committee inclusive of PWD, Health department, Finance department to submit a report on how to clean the contamination waste
The committee said the fire department needs to do a final check of all hospitals in Delhi for fire safety preparedness within a month
The committee also proposed to install Lazar temperature meters at various places in hospitals as a preventive measure from short circuits.
The Delhi government's meet came days after SUM Hospital in Odisha where 20 patitents died in a major fire accident on Monday.
The hospital, reportedly, overlooked a 2013 advisory of the state government to improve its firefighting mechanism.
