Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has begun presenting the Rail Budget for fiscal 2015-16 in Parliament.
"We must restore the strength of Bharatiya Railway as the backbone of India. We will have to add something new and deduct something old. We will have to change some tracks and carve some new paths. I am convinced we can deliver, but we can't deliver overnight," said Prabhu at the start of his presentation.
The Railways Minister thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for infusing all Indians with a sense of pride and to dream about a prosperous nation.
"Investment in Indian Railways is necessary for environment sustainability and well being of future generations," said Prabhu.
"Chronic under-investment has led to poor development of Indian Railways. Our priority will be to significantly improve high density networks of Indian Railways," he added.
This is the NDA Government's first full-fledged Railway Budget.
