The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday shot back at Awaaz-e-Punjab founder Navjot Singh Sidhu's claim that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wanted only Sidhu's his wife to contest the upcoming Punjab elections, saying it was the former cricketer who recommended this idea to the party.

"I think people of Punjab should know, when I met Navjot Sidhu, he said he is not a selfish person to fight on his wife's seat, and since the AAP's policy dictates that only one person from a family can fight elections, he wanted his wife to contest the elections. In fact, he is the one who proposed this idea and even said that he would stand-by AAP's fight against injustice. Today, his comments have completely changed, I am surprised to hear this statement," AAP leader Sanjay Singh told ANI.

Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, Sidhu said "Kejriwal told me 'don't fight elections and ask your wife to contest, we will make her a minister'. I said 'Sat Shri Akal'; you (Kejriwal) only want 'Yes Men'.

Explaining the reason behind his resignation to the Rajya Sabha, Sidhu said it had nothing to do with Kejriwal. "When I went to Rajya SabhaChairman Hamid Ansari sahib, he was shocked by my decision to resign, and told me that he never saw anyone doing this," he said.
