Williams development driver Susie Wolff is reportedly waiting to make history by becoming the first woman driver in 22 years to make it into the line-up for a Formula 1 weekend.

Women have a less than impressive record at the pinnacle of motor sport as in 64 years, only five have made the entry list and they have entered races 29 times and made it onto the grid for just 15 Grands Prix.

According to the Mirror, however, the wife of Mercedes executive director Toto Wolff said that she is ready to show her male rivals in the super-competitive world of German touring cars what she is capable of despite her sex and her diminutive form.

Stating that her male counterparts would not like being beaten by a woman, the Scotswoman also said that she is hoping to change the less-than-stellar record of women in the sport and believes that she has the chance as she has made the top 10 in the world in go-karting

However, Wolff insisted that she is not a woman on a mission for her kind and has no wider political agenda, although she added that she has no problems if her efforts help break down barriers in the sport.

Wolff also maintained that success would end the obsession with a woman making it in F1, although she said that she would never enter a race with only women in it as it is not the way forward for motor sport.

Wolff also refused to follow the path some of her predecessors have taken with overtly sexual photoshoots to further her career, the report added.
