A political worker of People's Democratic Party (PDP) was killed after suspected militants fired at him in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The person identified as Ghulam Mohuddin Dar was shot in the chest and abdomen. Dar was immediately taken to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead.
A resident of Pulwama Ghulam Hassan said, Dar was eating food when some men came to his house.
"Unidentified gunmen called him outside. When he was going outside, they started firing at him. We took him to a hospital where he died on the way," said Dar.
Hassan further said Dar's family is going through a hard time as he has two unmarried daughters.
Reportedly, militants had issued a warning to political parties against participating in the assembly polls scheduled for November-December.
Dar's father was also killed by suspected militants during parliamentary elections held earlier in April this year.
