The anti-terrorist squad (ATS) arrested a suspected activist leader , Gulrez Mustafa, belonging to the banned outfit, Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), outside the Bhopal railway station.
Inspector General of ATS, Sanjeev Sharma, disclosed the details while addressing a news conference.
Gulrez is believed to be a close associate of SIMI chief, Abu Faisal, and had reportedly helped him escape from Khandwa Jail in 2013.
"When Abu Faizal was returning yesterday, the ATS team tracked down another fugitive Gulrez, a resident of Indore and he was arrested outside the station. He came from Khandwa to Bhopal," said Sharma.
He also said that the arrested militant used to help in financing and coordinating with the major militant groups both inside and outside the country.
"Gulrez is one of the key members for the Sholapur module, Ujjain module, Rajasthan module and the groups operating outside the country, he used to finance and arrange meetings for them," he added.
