Congress leader P.C. Chacko on Saturday dismissed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Clean India mission as a means of political propaganda, centered only around publicity and photo-ops.
"Swachhta Abhiyan has become a political propaganda now, nothing but photo-ops and publicity. India needs a major cleanliness drive because solid waste disposal is a major problem in India," Chacko told ANI here.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi added yet another chapter to his 'Swachh Bharat' campaign by sweeping the 'Assi Ghat' in his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi. He said that social organisations had assured him that the entire area would be cleaned as soon as possible.
Chacko, however, termed the entire campaign a 'mockery'.
"Government does not have a blueprint on how to do this cleaning campaign, instead VIPs are only acting and taking photographs and this has become a kind of mockery now," he said.
