Some of the social media accounts and blogs were reportedly hacked by the infamous Syrian Electronic Army (SEA).
The hack attack carried out on Thursday, compromised CNN's main Facebook account, CNN Politics' Facebook account and the Twitter pages for CNN and CNN's Security Clearance.
Other virtual properties affected by the hack attack include blogs for Political Ticker, The Lead, Security Clearance, The Situation Room and Crossfire.
The news organization said that the posts were deleted within minutes and the accounts have since been secured.
CNN said that some of the posts by the hackers group claimed responsibility for the attack and alleged that all the news reports carried by the organization were fake.
Another post on CNN's Twitter account claimed that the SEA was retaliating for "viciously lying reporting aimed at prolonging the suffering in Syria."
The report said that the SEA has been credited with similar attacks on a number of news organizations, including a 20-hour-long outage of the New York Times website, websites of Columbia University and rights group Human Rights Watch.
