Congress leader J.P. Agarwal on Sunday backed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran Lal Krishna Advani's remark that 'political credibility was essential and politicians must live up to the trust placed in them by voters' and said those holding to their positions despite serious allegations must leave their seats respectfully.

"Everybody is saying the same thing as Congress that when the allegations are put, it is proved and documentary evidences are available then even the question of holding a position doesn't arise," he told ANI.

Agarwal also questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on the issue.

"The Prime Minister is absolutely quite. I think it is a very serious allegation and those who are still holding on to their positions must leave their seats respectfully and wait for the investigation and the final verdict," he said.

The Congress leader also demanded a thorough investigation into former IPL boss Lalit Modi's latest revelation that two leading Indian cricketers and a West Indian player had been bribed by an Indian real estate tycoon.
