Tamil film 'Visaaranai' India's official entry for Oscar race

So here's news for all the Indian films lovers to rejoice. Tamil film 'Visaaranai' (Interrogation), directed by Vetrimaaran has been chosen as India's official entry to the Oscars in the 'Best Foreign Language Film category.'

This decision has been announced today by the selection committee of the Film Federation of India.

Vetrimaaran's third film 'Visaaranai,' based on M. Chandrakumar's novel 'Lock Up,' was premiered in the Orrizonti (Horizons) section of the 72nd Venice Film Festival.

With this, it is marked as the first Tamil film selected for the competition section, which showcases trends in world cinema.

'Visaaranai,' produced by Dhanush is based on police brutality that went on to bag three National Film awards in India- 'Best Feature Film in Tamil,' 'Best Supporting Actor' for Samuthirakani and 'Best Editing' for Kishore Te.

Along with Samuthirakani, the star cast for the film includes Dinesh, Anandhi, Aadukalam Murugadoss.

'Visaaranai' has been selected after considering 29 entries that included 'Udta Punjab,' 'Umrika,' 'Thithi,' 'Sairat,' 'Neerja,' 'Dhanak,' and 'Nil Battey Sannata.
