 "Tamil Nadu floods: Ola activates safety zones to help people")
Taxi operator Ola on Thursday created safety zones or temporary 'homes' in flood-hit Chennai in order to support and assist the people in the city.
"Citizens who are in need of food and accommodation can head to these centres to avail services free of cost. These homes are equipped with relief supplies and first aid kits will be available for all free of cost," a statement from the Ola said.
This is an initiative by Ola to help and provide relief to the residents of Chennai, after having provided boats to ferry citizens to safer areas in the city a few days ago.
Social networking giant Facebook has also activated its Safety Check feature in Chennai. The website activated the feature early Thursday morning. The Safety Check feature allows the people to mark themselves as "safe" from the floods.
Heavy rains and water logging in Chennai has disrupted lives of many and has brought the city to a standstill.

In the last 24-hours, Chennai has received 345 mm of rain, which is highest ever for a single day in the last 114 years.
According to the Home Ministry, 269 people have lost their lives due to the calamity in the state so far.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who conducted an aerial survey today and took stock of the situation arising due to the devastating floods in the state, announced a relief package of Rs. 1000 crores.
He said that the declared amount is over and above the Rs. 940 crores which was released earlier.
