Teachers of various schools have praised Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for extending their retirement or supperannuation date to age 65.

Led by MLA Dr. Bijender Singh and Vishwanath Sharma, the teachers felicitated Dikshit on friday for taking a historic decision .

A function for this purpose was organized by the Teachers' Associations at NCUI Auditorium here.

Education Minister Professor Kiran Walia and others were present on the occasion.

Referring to teachers as "our guides and philosophers in the true sense," Dikshit said teachers in Delhi have been striving hard to make the school education the best in the country.

"Their constructive cooperation has helped in bringing improvement in board results from 36 percent to more than 90 percent. The teachers have been producing future leaders of the country. They instill the sense of discipline and unity. We take them in high esteem. Nobody in the country would ever forget his/her teachers in the life," she said.

Dikshit said the extension in service span has been granted to teachers with an aim to utilize their rich experience.

She hoped students would benefit with their teachers experience and guidance.
