A fresh spell of snowfall enveloped Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, plummeting temperature and forcing people to remain indoors.

Trees, roads and rooftops of houses in mountainous regions were covered with snow.

"It has been snowing here for the last two days. It is difficult for us to go to tuition because we have to go for tuition at 7.30 (local time) in the morning and after that to school. We get wet. It is difficult to remain in school. We are feeling very cold," said a student, Taufiq Ahmed.

March is generally the month for snow to melt; but with fresh snowfall even at the onset of the third month, people are facing a lot of problems. In higher altitudes, the temperature has even dropped to the sub-zero level.

However, it will help maintain the water-level in rivers and it will boost the production of fruits and crops.

"The water level rises in rivers due to snow. Electricity production goes up and there is no shortage of electricity in summer. It is good for orchards, fruits, farming and land," said a resident of Srinagar, Mohammad Usman.
