Ten people were killed and 31 injured after a bus plunged 300 metres down into the River Ganges at Saknidhar in Tehri district.
The incident had taken place in morning near Devprayag when it fell into a river.
Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Harish Rawat went to meet the victims and said that it was an unfortunate event and investigations were underway.
"This is very unfortunate news. The numbers of causalities is increasing. The cause is yet to be ascertained. Medical teams have been sent to the site of accident. We are shifting the injured people to Dehradun and if need be we will sent them to Delhi for treatment" said Rawat.
The roadways bus carrying 52 passengers was going from Delhi to Guptakashi which is a large town located at an elevation of 1,319 metres in the Kedar-khanda, in Garhwal Himalayas of Rudraprayag district.
Rawat said state government would bear the expenses of the treatment of injured victims.

"We have announce 2,00,000 rupees to the families whose relatives have died in the accident. The government will bear the expense of treatment of the injured people and give 50,000 Rupees to them" he said.
The injured have been admitted in the hospital for treatment.
