Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari on Friday said this year's general election was a fight between two ideologies, and added that the mindset of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has affected not only Uttar Pradesh, but also the entire nation.

"The battle of 2014 election is important, as it is between ideologies. On the one side you have the Congress which has worked relentlessly for uniting the society and to bring the backward people into the mainstream. On the other hand, you have the BJP which is negative and mean minded. Their mindset has not only cost Uttar Pradesh, but the whole of India," Tewari said at a press conference here.

Without naming the AAP, Tewari further said that people should not repose faith on those who had run away from governing in Delhi.

"There are some people who are fighting these elections who could not even function properly when they were given a mandate to rule Delhi. They ran away after a few days," Tewari added.

Tewari asked the people to vote for the Congress candidate and keep the foundation of secularism alive.

"The Congress candidate has risen from this place only. We believe that this false propaganda that is going on, one must dig deep into it, and if one analyses it, then none but the Congress candidate is a fit person to represent this constituency. He along with other senior Congress leaders have served Varanasi. The foundation of secularism that was kept since 1947 must be fought through in this election to keep it alive," Tewari remarked.
