If you are hunting for diamonds, just for a rare African plant which grows on sites of diamond-bearing rock.

The discovery was made in Liberia by Florida International University researcher Stephen Haggerty, who said according to him the plant adapted to grow in the kimberlite-rich soil because it contains high levels of magnesium, potassium, and phosphorus, which becomes essentially a "very good fertilizer," the Verge reported.

Geologists already know have long known that where there's kimberlite, there are often diamonds, and with the help of the plant it would now be easier to pinpoint the location.

However, it is not certain that all rocks would contain diamonds as Kimberlite pipes were rare to begin with, and of the roughly 6,000 examples known in the world, only around 600 contain diamonds. Of these, only 60 or so contain enough gems to be worth mining.

The findings are published in Economic Geology.
