Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Vinay Katiyar on Tuesday sparked a controversy by questioning that those killed in Shopian were civilians or not.
Katiyar's remark comes after Jammu and Kashmir Police registered a case against the army in connection with killing of two civilians in Shopian district.
Speaking to ANI, the BJP MP said, "Complaint should not be filed against any army officers.. We don't even know if those killed in Shopian were civilians or not. The terror activities have been taking place in the Valley every other day. May be the army killed them by mistake. People of Jammu and Kashmir should not work with terrorists."
Two civilians were killed and nine others injured after the army opened fire on protesters in Ganowpora village of south Kashmir's Shopian district on Saturday.
The army opened fire after it came under heavy stone pelting from a mob in the village.
Following the outrage over civilian killings, the state police registered case against the army while the divisional administration ordered a magisterial probe into the incident.
