The Afghanistan Government has stated that thousands of its troops will be deployed to the northern provinces of the country to prevent any threat by militants.

According to the Tolo News, the troops will be permanently deployed to the Kunduz, Takhar and Badakhshan provinces.

The Deputy Chief of Minister of Defence (MoD) public affairs department Mohammad Rahman Afzal said that it will be a powerful unit and will be given all equipments so that they do not have to rely on reinforcement troops.

Afghanistan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, while visiting the city of Kunduz earlier, had promised to clear out militants from the northeastern parts of the country.

The Kunduz city was captured by the Taliban recently and it took the Afghan troops 10 days to retake full control of the city.

The rise of the Taliban in the region has also compelled US President Barack Obama to announce the presence of American troops in Afghanistan till 2017.
