Thousands of protesters are demonstrating in Hong Kong's financial district after the territory's deputy leader called off talks with student leaders that were scheduled for Friday.
According to the BBC, the chief Secretary for Administration of Hong Kong Government Carrie Lam said that the students' refusal to end the protests has made negotiations impossible.
The seventeen year old founder of the Scholarism movement Joshua Wong asked people to come and occupy the road outside the public headquarters and bring tents to show persistence.
The protesters are planning to escalate the campaign if the government keeps denying meetings, said Alex Chow, secretary general of the Hong Kong Federation of Students (HKFS).
Demonstrators are protesting against China's decision to vet candidates in the 2017 Hong Kong elections. They are demanding a fully free election for the region's leader.
