Three passengers, who were suspected to have been exposed to the deadly Ebola Virus, were asked to undergo medical checks soon after their arrival at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport from Liberia. They have been taken to the Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital.

More than 1,427 people have died so far (as on 22nd August) of the epidemic, and the reported number of cases stands at 2,615.

Earlier this week, the World Health Organization (WHO) had said that the spread of the Ebola epidemic in West Africa is "unprecedented".

Health officers at airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Trivandrum, Kolkata and Kochi have screened about 10194 passengers for the Ebola Virus since August 10.

Ebola is a severe acute viral illness. The symptoms of EVD are sudden onset of fever, intense weakness, muscle pain, headache and sore throat. The symptoms are usually followed by vomiting, diarrhea, rash, impaired kidney and liver function, and in some cases, both internal and external bleeding.
