Former world number one Tiger Woods fell out of the top 50 in the world rankings for the first time in three years, and would become ineligible for a World Golf Championship for only the second time if he fails to turn his game around quickly.

Woods, who had been number one in the world last May, missed out most of last year recovering from back surgery and arrived at the Phoenix Open at number 47 and missed the cut by 12 shots, Sport24 reported.

The American golfer was last out of the top 50 on November 27, 2011. He would play Torrey Pines next week and the Honda Classic two weeks later.

Woods must regain his ranking inside the top 50 after the Honda Classic to be eligible for the WGC event at Doral, the report added.
