Delhi Home Minister Satyendra Jain on Monday said a magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the Tihar jailbreak incident, where two under trials dug a tunnel to escape the prison.
"A magisterial inquiry has been ordered. Some officials have been transferred immediately," said Jain.
A release from the Raj Niwas earlier stated that District Magistrate (South West) Ankur Garg will conduct the inquiry, with a focus on the factors and circumstances leading to the incident; a comprehensive review of the security set-up of Delhi prisons; fixing responsibility for the lapses leading to the incident; and remedial measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung has allowed Garg to co-opt officers from the Delhi Prisons, Delhi Police and PWD to assist him in the inquiry.
The two prisoners had scaled a wall and dug a tunnel in the dead of night to escape from jail.
One of the prisoners, Faizan, has been caught but the other, Javed, is on the run.
The incident came to light on Sunday morning.
