Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mukul Roy today thanked the people of Bengal for reposing their faith in the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government in the state inspite of canards being spread by the opposition parties.
"On TMC's behalf we thank the people of Bengal for keeping their faith on Mamata Banerjee and on the Bengal government. A section of media and almost all the opposition parties which claimed that there was no free and fair election possible have been proved wrong," Roy said this at a press conference here.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mukul Roy claimed that the by-poll results only proved that the people of this country have expressed their no-confidence against the BJP-led NDA government at the centre.
He also indicated that going by the voting trends this time it makes them confident to wrest the Basirhat South Assembly seat in 2016. He also declared that TMC's Dibyendu Biswas, who had narrowly lost to BJPs Shamik Bhattacharjee, would be renominated as the TMC candidate for the same seat when the 2016 assembly polls are held .
The TMC leader lashed out at the centre for targeting the TMC government in the state in the wake of the Saradha scam.
"The Central government using their all agencies to defeat TMC in West Bengal. They are trying to malign Mamata Banerjee, they are trying to malign the government, but the people have voted against them," he said.
"Absolutely, people have not believed. People believe that Mamata Banerjee is the symbol of honesty. So ..people doesn't believe by the publicity made by one section of the media. The results starting from 2013 panchayat polls, 2014 Lok Sabha polls and these recent by-polls only prove that she is symbol of honesty in the country," he added.

TMC candidate Nayana Bandyppadhyay has won the prestigious south-central Kolkata seat by defeating BJP and Congress in a triangular contest. The TMC candidate won by 14,000 votes against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ritesh Tiwari to retain the Chowringhee seat.
Meanwhile, BJP candidate Shamik Bhattacharjee won the Basirhat Dakshin seat in West Bengal by a slender margin of 1,742 votes.
The results of bypolls for three Lok Sabha and 33 Assembly constituencies spread across ten states where the bypolls were held on September 13, was announced earlier today.
