Australia returned to the Davis Cup World Group after six years as Bernard Tomic defeated Lukasz Kubot 6-4, 7-6, 6-3 in Warsaw on Sunday to give Australia an unassailable lead in the best-of-five tie on clay.

According to the Guardian, it was Tomic's second singles victory in the tie, after he and Lleyton Hewitt gave Pat Rafter's side a 2-0 lead on Friday.

Poland hit back in Saturday's doubles despite an impressive debut from Australian teenager Nick Kyrgios, who won a dead fifth rubber on Sunday after Michal Przysiezny retired early in the first set, the report said.

The 4-1 victory means Australia, 28-times Davis Cup champions, will return to the top 16 next year for the first time since 2007, the report added.

Rafter had nice things to say about 20-year-old Bernard Tomic and said that he had started to come of age and always gets the job done, adding that Australia could make the World Group for a few more years.

Tomic closed out his last match comfortably before embracing Rafter and his Australian teammates, the report further said.

Australia will learn their first 2014 World Group opponents on Wednesday, according to the report.
