Top Maoist leader, his wife surrender before Andhra Pradesh police

Top Maoist Venkatakrishna Prasad known as Gudsa Usendi, who belonged to the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee and his wife Raji surrendered before the police yesterday.

They appeared before the Maoist Special Intelligence Bureau of the Police and surrendered reportedly on health grounds.

Usendi, 53, has been associated with the Maoist party for nearly three decades. He is believed to have handled the Bastar ambush on a huge 20-vehicle Congress convoy killing 27 people, including Mahendra Karma and former Union Minister V C Shukla, in May last year.

More than a dozen cases are pending against him.

Usendi carries a reward of 20 lakh rupees as announced by the Government of Chhattisgarh and 15 lakh rupees as announced by the Andhra Pradesh Government.
