Top U.S. intelligence officials said on Wednesday that the Islamic State (IS) militants do not pose an immediate threat to the country.

Meanwhile U.S. President Barack Obama is set to give a speech describing his strategies to combat the IS militants in Iraq and Syria.

The undersecretary for intelligence and analysis, Francis X Taylor said that the Department of Homeland Security does not know of any credible threat from the Islamic State.

However, Taylor warned that the IS group could launch attacks without warnings and constitutes a serious threat within the region, reported the Washington Post.

He also said that if the group gains enough control in Iraq and Syria, they can launch serious attacks in the U.S.
