Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino to be their new manager after speculations surrounding Tim Sherwood ended with his sacking.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy reportedly pulled the plug on Sherwood's tenure and is now reportedly looking at Pochettino to become his 12th manager in 13 years.

According to the Daily Express, Levy said that they had appointed Sherwood during mid-season as someone who knew both the players and the club, adding that they had agreed on a 18-month contract with a break clause at the end of the season, which the club has now exercised upon.

Levy added that, on behalf of the club, he would like to thank Sherwood, who played as a midfielder for Tottenham during his playing days, for all his effort during his years with them and also wished him great success in his managerial career.

The Tottenham chairman said the club should embark on the process of finding a new coach, as the season is over, adding that they have a talented squad and exciting young players coming through.

Speculations are that Levy is preferring Pochettino, who should be available should Tottenham agree to pay the 2 million-pounds remaining on the final 12 months of the Argentine's contract, although AFC Ajax boss Fran de Boer also remains a candidate, the report added.
